Whether 2025 deserves the crown for queer cinema or not… it’s too soon to say, but for now, I’m leaning toward a soft ‘…yes,’ given its legendary roster of soon-to-be classics spanning the emotional, historical, scandalous and horny (thank god).
In Pillion, Eric Northman introduced Dudley Dursley to the world of BDSM thrills, Tessa Thompson wreaked delicious sapphic chaos in Hedda, and Roshan Sethi teamed up with his real-life partner Karan Soni for the groundbreaking rom-com sweetness of A Nice Indian Boy. Undeniably a messy and diverse slate, but honestly, it’s about time?!
Here, we celebrate the 10 LGBTQIA+ films that left us cackling, gasping, swooning and, yes, occasionally squirming in delight; spanning emotional dramas, kinky thrillers, lesbian anarchy, camp musical spectacles and audacious tales of marginalized queer lives. LGBTQIA+ excellence incoming!
