During the first week of his second term, Trump signed a series of executive orders claiming that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the workplace are discriminatory and threatening to bring federal action against companies who invest in them. Although the directives are largely focused on federal agencies that contract with the government, the American Civil Liberties Union noted, at the time, that the EOs served to “intimidate all employers,” including private businesses, by “using vague and threatening language to create fear of enforcement actions.”
