Few rom-com pairings in recent memory have caused heart palpitations in millions of queers quite like Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine in Red, White & Royal Blue, whose insane chemistry as Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry has cemented the characters as instant modern LGBTQIA+ icons.

Based on Casey McQuiston’s beloved novel, the Prime Video smash follows the whirlwind romance between a British prince (Galitzine) and the son (Zakhar-Perez) of America’s first female president, played by Kill Bill legend Uma Thurman. Faithful to the spirit of the source material, and elevated by the spark between its leads, the film became a streaming juggernaut and a cultural moment for rainbow people around the world.

Now, with filming underway for the sequel, officially titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, here’s everything we know so far about the next chapter in Alex and Henry’s love story.

When was it confirmed?

After months of edging fans, the sequel was officially confirmed on 9 May, 2024, at a special screening of the original film in Culver City, California. The event was attended by Galitzine, Zakhar Perez, Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Clifton Collins Jr. and Rachel Hilson.

Director Matthew Lopez and McQuiston were also there to share the news. At the time, Lopez was announced to return to the director’s chair and teaming up with McQuiston on the script.

A teaser poster was also unveiled featuring a cake, a cheeky nod to Henry and Alex’s global scandal in the first film, adorned with British and American flags and a single number “2” candle.

Who will star?

Of course, Zakhar Perez and Galitzine are back as Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry.

Joining them are as follows: Uma Thurman as US President Ellen Claremont-Diaz; Sarah Shahi as Zahra Bankston; Rachel Hilson as Nora Holleran; Ellie Bamber as Princess Beatrice; Clifton Collins Jr. as Congressman Oscar Diaz; Stephen Fry as King James III; Thomas Flynn as Prince Philip; Akshay Khanna as Shaan Shrivastava; and Malcolm Atobrah as Percy Okonjo.

New cast members include Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Alex Høgh Andersen (Vikings) and Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), although their roles are being kept under wraps.

One new addition whose role has been revealed, however, is Game of Thrones icon Lena Headey. She will step into the role of Princess Catherine, mother to Henry, Beatrice and Philip and heir apparent to the British throne.
