Matthew Finlan has reflected on his Game Changers character and what he hopes to see in Heated Rivalry season two.
In the third and sixth episodes of the beloved gay hockey romance series, the Orphan: First Kill star portrays Kyle Swift, one of Kip Grady's (Robbie G.K.) friends and a bartender at the Kingfisher gay bar.
While his appearance was brief, appearing in only a handful of scenes, many Heated Rivalry fans were quick to speculate that Finlan's character was the same Kyle as in Rachel Reid's fourth Game Changers novel, Common Goal.
In the book, Kyle Swift becomes romantically involved with Eric Bennett, a veteran hockey goalie who has recently emerged from a 20-year marriage and is bisexual, though not publicly out to his teammates or the wider world.
Fortunately, fans weren't kept in the dark, with Heated Rivalry showrunner Jacob Tierney confirming that it was the same character in a December interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I don't know what his love life looks like. I don't know what that journey's gonna be or when, but that's the same Kyle for sure," he explained.
While Tierney remained tight-lipped about whether season two will explore Kyle and Eric's love story, Finlan has already begun preparing in case the opportunity arises.
