The European Parliament has passed a resolution affirming that trans women are women.

Adopted last week (12 February) in Strasbourg, the move marks a significant show of support for trans rights within the European Union and outlines the EU’s priorities ahead of the 70th session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women.

The annual commission, taking place next month in New York, is tasked with advancing gender equality worldwide.

The European Parliament’s resolution emphasises that fully recognising trans women as women is essential “for the effectiveness of any gender-equality and anti-violence policies.”
