Eric Dane’s co-stars have paid heartfelt tributes to the actor following his tragic passing.

On 19 February, the actor’s family – including actress and wife Rebecca Gayheart and his two teenage daughters – confirmed with “heavy hearts” that he had lost his battle with ALS. He was 53.

Dane first announced his diagnosis in April 2025, revealing that he had begun experiencing symptoms in early 2024. He completely lost the use of his right arm and hand by June 2025, and three months later was using a wheelchair full-time.

The statement continued: “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

Dane rose to fame with his role as Jason Dean on Charmed (2003–2004), before earning global recognition as Dr Mark Sloan, aka “McSteamy”, on Grey’s Anatomy (2006–2012).

He later had main roles as Tom Chandler in The Last Ship (2014–2018) and as Cal Jacobs, the abusive and closeted father of Jacob Elordi’s character, on Euphoria. Dane will posthumously reprise the role in the upcoming third season of Euphoria, which is set to premiere on 12 April 2026.

Dane also starred in the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day, where he played a closeted gay professional football player who comes out on national television. His boyfriend, Holden Wilson, was played by Bradley Cooper.
