Editor's Letter: Facing a hostile world with queer resilience

Words by the Gay Times Editorial Team

October marks the start of Spooky Season, a time that queer people have always claimed as our own, from camp costumes to the joy of transformation (and several rewatches of the homoerotic stylings of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge... of course).

But this year, the world feels scarier than usual. Anti-trans rhetoric is intensifying, with politicians and pundits scapegoating the community at every turn. In the U.S., the murder of far-right influencer Charlie Kirk, committed by a white cisgender man, has been weaponised as another excuse to stoke hatred against trans people and other marginalised groups. Yet history reminds us: queer and trans people are not so easily erased.

The latest issue of Gay Times Magazine is a reminder of that. It’s a testament to resilience, to joy, to creating culture even as the world tries to shut us down.
