Pascal Kaiser, the German referee who went viral for proposing to his partner at a football match, has been physically assaulted at his home.

On 31 January, the openly bisexual referee got down on one knee and proposed to his partner, Moritz, in front of 50,000 cheering fans at FC Köln’s RheinEnergieStadion.

The engagement quickly went viral after being shared by FC Köln’s official Instagram account, which celebrated the moment with the following statement: “Pascal Kaiser is a referee and huge FC fan. Pascal is queer and went out three years ago.

“Today he had a special plan in which the FC supported him. Pascal proposed to his longtime partner at the RheinEnergieSTADION - but see for yourself. Congratulations, you two!”

In the days following the proposal, Kaiser received death threats and was doxxed, with his home address publicly leaked, according to French outlet L’Équipe. Although he contacted the police, he was reportedly told there was no immediate danger.
